Katja Dance Company and DanceArt.si present a new charity dance-theatre performance, created in collaboration with the Institute of the Republic of Slovenia for Organ and Tissue Transplantation, Slovenija transplant. The performance, under the artistic direction of choreographers Katja Vidmar and Mitja Popovski, produced by Albert Podrekar and under the honorary patronage of Mrs Vlasta Nussdorfer, addresses one of the most important issues in contemporary society: the decision to donate organs and tissues after death. Through contemporary dance, music and visual narrative, the performance explores moments when individuals are confronted with questions of transience, loss, compassion and the power of making an organ donation. The performance invites the audience to reflect on autonomous, voluntary and informed decision-making, and encourages dialogue about organ donation.
On this occasion Slovenija-transplant stated: “The decision to donate organs after death is a noble human and deeply compassionate act. One donor can save up to nine people after death, which is extraordinary proof of how powerful a single decision can be. Although Slovenija-transplant strives to bring the field of organ donation closer to people in various ways, there is still too much fear, doubt, distrust and passivity among the public. Too many people avoid making the decision, making the formal enrolment in the national register and discussing this topic. Therefore, we are pleased to be participating in a project that opens up space for a better understanding of our field through performative art.”
For many years, Katja Dance Company has been creating socially engaged projects that connect art and charity. With this performance, they remain committed to this mission: after covering costs, a portion of the proceeds from the performances will be donated to the patient organisation the Slovenian Transplant Association for the implementation of its tasks in accordance with the organisation’s founding act.
