The »My scar, my life« exhibition

Since October 2022, the inspiring exhibition My Scar, My Life has been travelling around Slovenia. From 7th of October 2024 it will be on display in Ptuj.

The exhibition of artistic nude photos of organ recipients with accompanying statements and expert explanations offers a special insight into the donation and transplantation of organs and tissues in Slovenia. The exhibition presents many inspiring stories of solidarity, medical excellence and treatment successes. It was created on the initiative of the association, but in cooperation between the patient association Slovensko društvo Transplant and Slovenija-transplant. The photographer Miran Juršič is the author of the exceptional artistic photos.

With great courage and positive energy, people with transplanted organs have revealed their scars, their bodies and their thoughts to overcome taboos, express gratitude and convey an important message: Become a donor and make life possible. The photos are complemented by panels with expert explanations that encourage people to talk about organ donation and dispel common misconceptions.

Breaking taboos about organ donation and transplantation

Who are the people who have needed a transplant? How do they live after organ transplant treatment? What do their bodies look like? What do the scars mean to them? How does organ donation work? How should I discuss my views with my family? How can I register as an organ donor?

The exhibition provides answers to the above questions. The aim of the exhibition is to talk openly about organ donation in everyday situations, to break unnecessary taboos and to encourage people to become organ donors. The exhibition, in which life and gratitude shine, changes the viewer’s view of life, of beginnings and endings.

From the first opening, the exhibition is a starting point for round tables, discussions and press conferences that deepen understanding of organ donation. As part of an international project, we have already presented it in Poland and to the Transplant Society at the ESOT Congress in Athens in September 2023. It is already recognised nationally and internationally as a good practice of innovative and successful communication model in the field of organ donation. It is also an exemplary model of excellent cooperation and complementarity between the official institution and patient associations.
