A person can save 9 lives by donating organs after their death.
Organ donation is one of the noblest acts a human can perform. In Slovenia, the heart, lungs, liver, pancreas and kidneys can be donated after death.
In Slovenia, 85% of people are in favour of donation in principle. About 1.5% of the population is declared in the donor register.
By the end of August 2024, 16,377 people have enrolled in the national register (126 of whom were against donation).
In Slovenia, around 110 organ transplants and 120 corneal transplants are performed annually at the UMC Ljubljana.
