The European Organ Donation Day is an annual opportunity to draw media and public attention to organ donation and to thank all donors, their relatives and experts involved in the processes from donation to transplantation. At the same time, each year we aim to broaden understanding of the field, address lesser-known procedures and give space to those who may remain in the background.
This year, the focus is on the relatives/family of donors. At the press conference, one family will share their perspective. At the same time, we are opening an exhibition of artistic and documentary photographs entitled “We are still here”. The author of the photo essay, Ela Zdešar, followed the processes from donation to transplantation for a year and a half. She documented events that are invisible to most people. How do the processes take place in the operating theatre, what is the transport like, what is the traceability, how many experts and support services are involved in each process from donation to transplantation…? All questions are answered by impressive and very informative photos. After the press conference there will be refreshments and time for socializing.
The event is open to public. Co-workers in the national donor-transplant programme, relatives of donors, people who have had a transplant are cardialy invited.
Stay tuned, we will announce the details of the event in time.
